This fine movie clearly shows two different philosophies permeating the Iranian society after the revolution and until this very day. The revolutionaries were those few who believed that group solidarity with injustice is in itself unjust and the appeasers or conformists who believed that solidarity is paramount, regardless of the context.

It is interesting to contrast the destiny of those heroes, who strongly believed in standing up against injustice, with the majority of the interviewees who advocated cover up and resistance, against justice, for the sake of upholding group solidarity with a single coward who committed a selfish and unjust act.

Perhaps, it's dark side of human instinct to conform to survive, even at the cost of thirty years of injustice to himself. Good for those who had the backbone to stand up for justice, in their short lives.

I don't know what coverage is like in the US and Canada, but on the BBC News site Gaza has been the top news story since the killing of Ahmed Jabari. Syria, where many more men, women, and children, are killed every day, gets less coverage, smaller headlines, less prominence.

Of the tens of thousands killed in Syria, very many have been Palestinian, but they've received little attention in comparison to those killed in Gaza. Of course it's much easier for Western journalists to access Gaza than to access Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp in Syria.

The difference in Western interest could also be a form of narcissism in seeing Israel as part of the West, a narcissism that can be found in the strength of both pro and anti Israel viewpoints, self loathing being just as narcissistic as self-love. People don't care as much about other wars where there's no-one to immediately identify with.

The tragedy of Gaza is I think not that people don't care, but that so many (not just in the West) care about Gaza as a proxy for their own loyalties and hatreds, fears and resentments.
