Following the letter written by Karoubi which was written ten days before its release on Monday, Larijani, parliament speaker, ordered an investigative panel to look into the claims Karoubi puts forth in his statement.
Now, after only two days, Larijani has announced the results of this panel. He said: “After thorough investigation and interviews with Kahrizak detainees, the panel has not encountered a single case of rape or molestation.”
He also warned: “this is a warning sign to state officials to not put forth such claims before they have been investigated. Especially at a time when public opinion is already convoluted and such allegations can be misused by Westerners.”
In the statement released by the panel, they have also asked Karoubi to come forth with his evidence.
I would be happy to know this case has been cleared IF ONLY:
How could the panel “thoroughly investigate” anything in two days?
If the ex-detainees are afraid to speak out publicly, Karoubi can’t put forth any viable evidence and it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that the panel did not have access to it either.

Having pondered on your excellent text [chapeau!], I posted two statements as to the PressTV-article “Larijani: Prison rape claims ’sheer lies’”:

On Monday the investigative panel started its activity, two days later, today that is, it claims to have completed “a precise and comprehensive inquiry”. How can one seriously claim to have thoroughly investigated more than 50 cases of deaths and ca. 3000 having been arrested within 2 days?
II) CALCULATION – Wed, 12 Aug 2009 18:18:27 GMT
Investigation = whereabouts found out+approached+interviewed. Monday, panel starts, 5 working hours + Tuesday, 10 w-hrs + Wednesday, results announced, 5 w-hrs = 20 w-hrs. 3000 detainees (60 deaths incl.) divided by 20 w-hrs = 150 cases investigated in 1 hour = 2,5 cases investigated in 1 minute. 10 officials: 300 cases for one official, divided by 20 w- hrs = 15 cases investigated in 1 hour; 4 minutes spent on 1 case. A “precise and comprehensive inquiry” in cloud cuckoo land ?
They haven’t so far deleted statement I) (“hibernation” time: 4 hours so far); I wouldn’t mind a similar “hibernation” period for the calculation.
