Coming to the School Nearest You

In the past week, the head of University of Tehran’s campus security was dismissed and a fellow by the name of Khosravi from the ministry of intelligence has taken his place.
According to Mowj, on Sunday and a day before Daneshjou’s visit (on Sunday, it was still speculated that Ahmadinejad would attend), the director of the law enforcement unit at the university was also dismissed. This office was independent of the security office, and both have been given to Khosravi, bringing the university under the direct watch of the intelligence ministry.
……… What can I say? We were never “careful” in school. We did pretty much whatever we wanted and said whatever we wanted. And it was very hard for some to believe. Now we’re back to 1981 and everyone has to keep their eyes and ears open constantly. Back to paranoia and fear … which was only a story we heard from the grownups.

I think the difference between now and 1981 was that the radicals had many foot soldiers back then. (Certainly, I don’t think we would have seen the scenes we saw yesterday in Tehran University without a violent response from them). I don’t think that is the case anymore. They can appoint themselves as the head of security everywhere, but I think the question is will enough people listen to their commands?
J, I wasn’t around in 81, so I can’t comment on how things were back then. But I’m not so sure that people really “listened” – they were frightened into obeying certain restrictions on campus ground. Restrictions we never had to deal with … until now.
Ped, just checking in to say Hi! again – and to say yet again that my thoughts and prayers are with you and with all your gallant and courageous fellow-Greens in Iran! Hoping and praying with all my heart that this monstrous situation that has been imposed on all of you will soon be resolved – in the best possible way.
parvati_roma, thanks for the kind note! This thing isn’t going to be resolved any time soon, but we’re pretty used to monstrous situations
Why all the smiley faces?
