If a Tree Falls In the Forest …
Oct 28th, 2009 by pedestrian
And everybody is around to hear it, did it really fall?
Well, Ahmadinejad has just given George Berkeley a run for his money.
“Some tried to claim that the university students will be able to put pressure on the government. They claimed that as soon as universities opened, the protests would start and the students would hit the streets to once again create chaos and unrest. But nothing of the sort happened. This shows that these were just illusions created by some people and propagated throughout the Media which has no truth to it whatsoever.”
Just YESTERDAY, universities across the country (and note, this wasn’t just limited to Tehran but literally across the country) from the North, Gilan, to the South, Ahvaz, to Tehran were embroiled in protests and unrest.
The unrest in universities doesn’t exist. Ahmad Zeydabadi and the other prisoners don’t exit. Everything is roses and blossoms and -vanilla – ice cream.
There.

AN is a solipsist. Therefore, if he goes, we go. Damn it!
So completely unrelated to the theme of your post, did you know that crows are considered to be the third most intelligent creature on earth, behind chimpanzees and humans? Saw the crow in the pic, felt like sharing.
His statement is not the least bit surprising when you consider his affinity to lying, he is after all the same person who claimed that homosexuals do not exist in Iran and that wasn’t even one of his more preposterous claims.
Anyway I would just like to thank you for wonderful blog and keep up the good work.
Why haven’t you mentioned so far, that obviously a drastic reform of the Iranian national health services has taken place,
now making itself felt via the exorbitant consequences of such overhasty measures:
for obviously no other reason all Iranian ophthalmologists, physicians and psychotherapists must have left / seem to have left their country ?
How can you justify this grave lack of (your) “on-the-spot-reporting” of this Iranian health-system-reform – or should one call it “-revolution” – on your part?
Confess !!!!
Questions over questions
Pedestrian, thank you for your continued reporting on this blog — excellent, sometimes humorous, always well-considered and written. Have been meaning to state a simple thank you for a long time. Words don’t suffice, but thank you.
Pensive Persian, Ahamdinejad is great … just not as a president!
I think we’ve had another conversation on crows … no? Or was it just birds? Crows suck. Who cares how smart they are? I bet Ahmadinejad is pretty smart too.
German, I’m sorry
Observer, you’re welcome!
Ah! Great! now I can go to bed soundly .. I was afraid it’s chocolate and strawberry
)
German;
Drs have left?!
Many have tried; however, accreditation of their degree and retaining for their specializations abroad often prevents them from desiring to set shop abroad.
Younger doctrs are likely to leave; the already well established and wealthy ones operate in heaven in Iran
At least, they won’t have to pay hefty practice insurance, shoudl they kill a patient in Iran; nor wll they suffer legal suit due to medical error …
“Crows suck. Who cares how smart they are? I bet Ahmadinejad is pretty smart too.” Lol! This neighbourhood was infested with crows a few years ago so 1) having become familiar like-it-or-not with their practices and habits and 2) having by now been semi-familiarised with those of Ahmadinejad too, I totally agree!
Crows are cool, Pensive P. One morning long ago, after a night of partying with my friends, on my inner-city trek homeward , I spontaneously led a pack of wild crows starting from San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park all the way over to Market Street. They followed me, swooped down near me, “haah’d”, I’d “haah” back. Of course, people we ran into along the way thought it was some kind of scene out of a horror movie! (Me dressed in my typical black and all.) There were about 20 of them, but only the leader made it as far as Market Street. That was as far as he was willing to go. So we gave each other a final “haah!” and left our separate ways.
Like Parvati, I’ve lived in a place (Tehran) where crows rule the city. So I HATE the bastards.
naj, I hate chocolate ice cream. I couldn’t go to sleep not knowing whether it was vanilla or chocolate!
Pirouz, I’d beg to differ …
Okay, here’s another quick bird story.
We took our fox terrier doggie to live with us in north Tehran. Her name was “kee-kee”. It was winter time, and we had her out alone, in the front courtyard. We were just leaving the house, when we found poor kee-kee trembling in total fright, nudged as far as she could be into the nook beside the door. I looked up a ways at a distant tree top and there was a gigantic bird of prey- must have been some kind of asiatic eagle. It must have just made a pass and nearly swept away our poor kee-kee!
Pirouz, I’ve never seen a gigantic bird in north tehran … what color was it?
Speaking of dogs, I don’t know if you were there when this trend started … but among other things, it’s “trendy” now to have a dog. I have friends who get one just for the “look” of it. they don’t walk the poor thing, or treat it properly. It’s just another accessory, like their Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses. It’s terrible.
I think that Pirouz
- with the stories he tells, the questions he asks, and the expert knowledge he has –
will always find an interested audience.
