Behzad Nabavi Talking About His Wife
Nov 28th, 2009 by pedestrian

I’m so worried for him. He’s only been home 2 days and already his home is a center of dissent, laughter and defiance. For all those things and more, what will they do to him after he has to go back in 10 days?
Maybe he doesn’t care anymore now that he knows his family will be o.k.?

As I previously mentioned, Behzad Nabavi was released for ten days.
He’s had a slew of visitors, from Mohammad Khatami, to the members of the Freedom Movement, to Sohrab Arabi’s mother [pictured above with Minoo Mortazi, the wife of Habibollah Peyman.]
Here he is retelling the story of seeing his wife before going to the show trials.
“The first time [before the revolution] I was sent to prison, I didn’t have a care in the world. I was single and I spent 20 months in solitary confinement and I didn’t think about anyone or anything. This time, I was constantly worried for my wife. She is not a political person. But when I stepped outside [to go to the trials], I heard someone yelling my name: “Behzad!” I looked up and just by looking at the chador [the black veil] I knew it was her. All I could do was blow her a kiss from afar. They stopped the car to wait for some other people, and she ran to me. She held up her hand in a victory sign” [everyone bursts into laughter] “be strong, be calm, we will prevail she said and I knew that I had to worry about many things, but that she would be o.k.”
“A few nights ago when they sent me back to prison, she’d told them [the authorities]: “if he loses one hair [Persian expression, meaning if any harm comes to him] I will speak to the media.”
And here Nabavi stops and laughs “because she knew that couldn’t happen” [referring to the fact that he's lost most of his hair]. “I told her: since when are you the willing to do things like that?”
He is GREAT! LOL
wow. my tears and smile came as watching this clip. so strong and beautiful…
It is! and he is! I’m just really worried for his health.
I have no idea who he is, but I’m glad to see that he still has a fighting spirit. As long as I know there are people who are willing to sustain the fight, I know there is hope and a light at the end of the tunnel.
“As long as I know there are people …”
Lola, exactly.
He’s famously known as “the old guerrilla fighter”. His Wikipedia page is a pretty good intro.
