I personally get a kick out of having a first deputy named “Esfandiyar” – an ancient Persian name. Even though his full name is Rahim Esfandiyar (an Arabic name before the Persian one – maybe a good metaphor of Ahmadi’s confused politics).

But Mr. Mashaie, whose nomination has been hit with an avalanche of criticism both from leading clerics and parliament, writes on his website today that the reason people are “afraid” of his nomination is that he stands a good chance of winning the next (11th) presidential election!

Since, Ahmaidnejad and Mashaie are already in-laws, that would be just convenient for their little monarchy, now wouldn’t it?

Ahmadinejad’s son is married to Mashaei’s daughter. (these photos were circulating all over the web as wedding photos. Mashaei did speak of the wedding, but I am not certain if these photos are from the ceremony.)
