A Lover’s Duet
Ahmadinejad: “One of the lord’s greatest blessings in my life has been to know Mr. Mashaie – this virtuous brother, this great man.”
Mashaie: “I’ve never met a man as concerned for humanity [as Ahmadinejad]. When we are together, nothing is lost and when we are not together everything is lost.”
Ahmadinejad: “Rahim Mashaie is like a pure, flowing river.”
Ahmadinejad: “Some ask me why I like Mr. Mashaie. And I tell them: for a thosuand reasons. One of those reasons is that when I sit with him, it’s like I sit with myself. There is no distance. He is as transparent and pure as a mirror. ”
Mashaie: “Ahmadinejad has shown that he is a man for all seasons. Thus, there must be a movie made about him. Some seasons are easier than others. But the incline towards the peak of the mountain is decreasing.”

If you go to Alef, the site of hardline x 10^n parliament member, Mohsen Tavakoli, you will find something called “roozshomareh velayatpaziri“(Countdown to the acceptance of the leader’s orders):
Right now it says: 6 days, 18 hours, 13 minutes and 22 seconds.
Meaning: it’s been six days since the leader wrote a letter asking Ahmaidnejad to sack Mashaie, and he has not “accepted yet”.

Tabnak just published a letter written by the leader asking Ahmadinejad to dismiss Mahshaie. The leader has never directly meddled in government’s affairs especially in such matters as choosing deputies and ministers. I think this shows the gradual shift in his behavior that we’ve been witnessing.
He has some thoughts as to why Khamenei’s ‘order’ has not been accepted

“It’s not a rumor, there’s actual footage of R. getting up in the meeting of assembly of experts and suggesting Khamenei.
That’s why I say I think R. has been demonized too much. It could very well be true that he did it for personal gain. But, from all the accounts we have, Khamenei was a pretty moderate, sophisticated man (compared to the others) in the clerical establishment. It could also have been because R. thought he was the best choice.
Now, something funny happens: like I said, by many accounts, K. was a pretty moderate fellow. But for the past fifteen years, his life has been in a cloud of mystery. I had a classmate, a child of a top Iranian official, and she would say that within the high ranks, they know everything about each other, and come and go to each others’ homes and weddings and family gatherings regularly even if they are seemingly on different political camps – but not with K. Few know anything about him nowadays.
So, judging from his recent antics, he’s gone through a great metamorphosis – and not for the better.”
